Name:
Julia Sinex

OR-MEP Role:
Energy Advisor & Outreach Specialist, Oregon Multifamily Energy Program

What motivates you in this role?
In my role as Energy Advisor, I have the privilege of working with a wide range of designs from micro-studios to large family apartments, and from transitional housing to homes for the aging. It is equal parts challenging and fascinating to explore unique energy efficiency solutions that effectively accommodates the needs of each population being served.

In my Outreach Specialist role, I have had many opportunities to speak to developers who had never considered energy efficiency measures for their properties. I enjoy educating them on cost effective possibilities that will not only increase their resident’s comfort and satisfaction but will save the property and the residents a lot of money. I love watching the light bulb go off and to be able to provide the tools to fulfill the potential.

What excites you most about the Multifamily Energy Program?
The engineer geek is me loves looking for solutions to challenges that come with the unique building types and individual community needs. However, the most exciting part of the program is that I get to speak with a variety of people in the low-income housing industry who work tremendously hard, often with very limited resources, to provide the best product and service to the community they serve. Housing in Oregon is a tremendous hardship for so many people and I am honored to work with and interact with folks committed to making our community a better place for everyone.

What is one fun fact about you that you think people would love to know?
High on my bucket list is travelling around Ireland in a camper van. I’m shooting for summer 2020.

What is your favorite place that you’ve traveled to in Oregon?
I’m very much into hiking and camping and my favorite spots are along the coast or in the Cascades. I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite but I highly recommend Thousand Acres Dog Park at the Sandy River Delta for anyone who hasn’t checked it out with their furry friend.
